We are pleased to welcome Carolyn Daly as a partner, launching our Family Law Group. Carolyn is joined by associate Sean Gaynor in the firm’s Newark office, both were previously with Daly & Associates.

About Carolyn Daly
Designated as a Certified Matrimonial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court, a title held by only 2% of statewide attorneys, Carolyn handles matters involving divorce litigation, domestic violence, the Sexual Assault Survivor Protection Act, custody and parenting time, grandparents’ rights, emancipation, alimony, child support, college contribution, pre-nuptial agreements, enforcement of settlement agreements, equitable distribution, and division of complex assets. She is trained in collaborative divorce, divorce mediation, parent coordination, and arbitration, and is regularly appointed by family court judges as a mediator, Guardian ad Litem and parent coordinator. Prior to joining Cohen Seglias, Carolyn founded Daly & Associates, which she operated for more than a decade.
Carolyn has been accepted as a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML)—among only 1,300 family lawyers nationwide and fewer than 45 in New Jersey to receive this distinction by demonstrating the highest standards of matrimonial practice. Currently, Carolyn serves as the president of the New Jersey chapter of the AAML. In addition, she has been selected for inclusion on the New Jersey Super Lawyers lists published by Thomson Reuters for 2013-2022, including the Super Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers and the Super Lawyers Top 50 Women Lawyers.
A frequent author and speaker on family topics, Carolyn strives to educate audiences on the process of separation, divorce, cohabitation, and post-judgment modifications, as well as the division of complex assets, compensation packages and deferred compensation and family businesses.
Carolyn is involved in the legal community of Morris County, serving as a member of the Morris County Child Support Partnership Committee and as an Early Settlement Panelist. In 2022, she launched Family Matters of Morris County, which provides supervised parenting time and other critical resources to families in need in Morris County and throughout New Jersey. Carolyn also volunteers as an attorney for the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project, where she works with victims of domestic violence to obtain restraining orders against their abusers.
Carolyn earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) Family Law Section and serves on their Family Law Executive Committee. Carolyn also serves on the New Jersey Supreme Court Family Practice Committee. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey, New York, and before the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
About Sean Gaynor
Sean devotes his practice to representing family law clients. He handles a wide variety of cases dealing with nearly every area of family law, including issues relating to custody and parenting time, alimony, child support, college contribution, removal/relocation, emancipation, life insurance, and division of assets, such as real property, retirement accounts and stock accounts.
He is an experienced litigator who works to prepare his clients for the range of possible outcomes so they are able to make informed decisions about going to trial or settling their case. A former assistant prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Sean has additional experience representing family law clients in criminal municipal and state court matters when charges stemming from alleged domestic violence or other issues arise. He received his J.D. from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law and his B.A. from the Catholic University of America. Sean has been selected for inclusion on the 2022 New Jersey Super Lawyers Rising Stars list published by Thomson Reuters.
